What are the central arguments of this article Example
Essays on What are the central arguments of this article PowerPoint Presentation Central Arguments in ââ¬Å"Humor and Group Effectivenessâ⬠Romero and Pescosolido (2008, p.396) proposed that successful organization humor has favorable influence on the different group processes and outcomes. Organizational humor is defined by Romero and Cruthird (2006 cited in Romero Pescosolido, 2008, p.397) as amusing communications, which elicit positive cognition and emotions in organization, groups, or individuals. Individuals, who are in the labor force in the current times, highly value a fun workplace. Most of these individuals are involved in jobs that require creativity and innovative ideas. Available literature indicated that group offered competitive advantage for several companies. It is a source of innovation and knowledge. Thus, the management is driven to find means to keep groups intact. Romero and Pescosolido (2008, p.396) argued that humor addresses group viability and employee retention through establishing a fun workplace that most employees find attrac tive. Successful use of humor within the group leads to pleasure. In addition, it reaffirms group identity though establishing ââ¬Å"who we are, what we are doing, and how we do thingsâ⬠(Romero and Pescosolido, 2008, p.396). However, researchers warned that some individuals may regard some things as humorous, while others may not. Thus, there is a need to find a balance between acceptable content and novelty in the use of humor. These researchers further added that humor is positively correlated to group effectiveness through numerous variables. The ââ¬Å"normative theory of group effectivenessâ⬠proposed by Hackman (cited in Romero and Pescosolido, 2008, p.396) supports the premise that group effectiveness is composed of three aspects namely; productivity, individual development, and group viability. Romero and Pescosolido (2008, p.410) stressed that organizational humor fosters increase quality and quantity of communications within the group, which consequently increases group productivity. Findings of previous researches indicated that poor communication led to low group productivity and interpersonal conflict. In addition, these researchers asserted that group productivity is facilitated by the group leaderââ¬â¢s effective use of organizational humor. Group leaders encourage members to highly perform through managing group emotions with humor. In addition, the effective use of organizational hu mor establishes a performance oriented group culture. Previous studies suggest that group level collective beliefs and cognition influence group behavior and subsequently group performance. Humor can be utilized to communicate beliefs, expectations, values, and other essential elements of the groupââ¬â¢s culture. Lastly, group productivity is fostered when effective use of organizational humor leads to a higher degree of acceptance of group goals and consensus. Meanwhile, the second aspect of Hackmanââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"normative theory of group effectivenessâ⬠referred as learning is facilitated when the use of humor generates a perception of safety among group members. Psychological safety pertains to a shared belief that the group is safe for an interpersonal risk-taking (cited in Romero and Pescosolido, 2008, p.410). In addition, the use of humor fosters group viability when it elicits favorable effect in the group. Researches stress that the effective use of humor is manifested when it strengthens group cohesion. Lastly, group viability is fostered with the reduced rate of employee turnover. All these factors influence group productivity, individual development, and lastly group viability. In turn, these aspects of ââ¬Å"normative theory of group effectivenessâ⬠affect group effectiveness. Mary Shellys Novel Frankenstein Essay Example For Students
Mary Shellys Novel Frankenstein Essay The majority would try to argue that in todays society it is very unlikely for people to act upon their misguided opinions. Last week there were terrorist attacks on America and the key suspect being Osama Bin Laden, who claims all his actions are for Allah (the Muslim god). A few days later a taxi driver was murdered by an English man, he though that the taxi driver was a Muslim. The English man had assumed that if the taxi driver was a Muslim it gave him the right to kill this person (Even if he was not remotely related with the attacks on America. ). This was wrong and a disgusting act yet even more so the Taxi driver was a Sikh! People need to learn to be able to understand each other and to be able to sympathises with others actions. Especially after recent events in todays world, people can relate to the gargantuan situations that are part of todays reality with events in Shellys book Frankenstein, Shellys unbelievable ability to write such a poignant and heat touching novel can still make people look back upon their actions and question their lawfulness, and whether the acted justly or not. In Frankenstein it is hard to differentiate whether the characters love each other or are just obsessed with one another. Victor try to re-create the love between him and his mother through his and Elizabeths relationship, I dont think that Frankenstein actually loves Elizabeth I think he is obsessed with trying to replace his mother and Elizabeth is the best person to do that. All the characters have an obsession, so milder than others but are still present, Alfonse and Victors mother are obsessive over Victor (This may be where the root of Victors obsession is created). Victors mother is also so obsessive over Elizabeth that she sacrifices herself to save Elizabeth from dying by nursing her. Ironically, as Victor is obsessive the creation is obsessive over his father (Victor). The root of the problem in this family is that they view each other as objects not breathing, thinking human beings.

Black beauty essays
Black beauty essays Publication: Tom Doherty Associates, Inc. Running down a steep carriage road in the rain, a young girl fell and hurt herself. Despite doctoring and the prayers of her devout Quaker parents, the injuries didnt heal. The year was 1834, the place Yarmouth, England, and fourteen-year-old Anna Sewell would never be able to run again. My ankles, she wrote later, are twisted like the leg of the wagon horse who fell on the cobbles last year and had to be shot. It was typical of her to notice and remember the fate of a horse as a who, as a person, not a thing. Even before her accident, Anna Sewell had felt a special affection for horses. For all living creatures, but most of all for horses. After she hurt herself, her love of horses grew, because horses became her faithful, helping companions. Though she could barely walk on her lamed feet, she could still ride out alone on horseback. She could still take pleasure in the countryside; on a horse she could still run in the rain. And with one of her ponies hitched to a chaise, she could drive herself to visit neighbours or to meet her father, a bank manager, at the train station. Her horses gave her independence, and she treated them as her best friend. As a young woman, Anna Sewell went to Germany for a year to be treated for her lameness. She came back somewhat better, and for a few years; she was able to walk more strongly. But the improvement didnt last. Her health grew worse. She never married, but lived at home the rest of her life. Toward the end, even her beloved horses could not help her, as she could not find strength to go outside the house. During this time, the last eight years of her life, she expressed her lifelong love and respect for horses by penning the only book she ever wrote, Black Beauty. ...
